Elementor Images Not Loading After Migration: 6 Fixes

The site is live on the new host, the text looks right, but the pictures are gone. Empty boxes, tiny broken icons, or a blank hero section. If you have Elementor images not loading after migration, the cause is almost always one of six things, and each one has a clear fix.

Elementor Images Not Loading After Migration: 6 Fixes

Work through the list in order. The first checks take a minute, and they save you from heavier repairs later.

Fix 1: Check that the files actually moved

Elementor shows images from your wp-content/uploads folder. If that folder did not copy across, nothing in your Media Library will load.

  • Connect by FTP or your host’s file manager.
  • Open wp-content/uploads and look for year and month folders such as 2026/09.
  • Compare the folder size with the old server.

If files are missing, copy them over again from the old site or your backup. Our guide to uploading with FTP or SFTP shows a safe way to transfer files.

Fix 2: Look for the old domain in image addresses

This is the most common cause. Elementor saves every image address as a full URL inside the page data. After a move, those addresses can still say https://old-site.com/wp-content/uploads/photo.jpg. If the old site is offline, the image cannot load.

Open one broken image in a new browser tab with a right-click and “Open image in new tab”. If the address shows your old domain, you have found the problem.

Fix 3: Replace the old image URLs in bulk

Editing images one by one is slow and easy to get wrong. Use a search and replace instead.

  1. Take a backup of your database.
  2. Search for the old domain, for example old-site.com.
  3. Replace it with the new domain.
  4. Save and reload the page.

Search & Replace for Elementor Free handles this page by page. Pro runs it across the whole site with a dry-run preview. See our help article on searching and replacing images in Elementor for the exact steps.

Fix 4: Fix mixed content from HTTP to HTTPS

If your old site used http:// and the new one uses https://, browsers can block images that still load over HTTP. Open the browser console and look for “mixed content” warnings.

Replace http://your-domain.com with https://your-domain.com using the same search and replace method. We cover this case in more detail in our guide on how to fix broken links after site migration in Elementor.

Fix 5: Regenerate Elementor files and clear caches

Elementor builds CSS files for each page. These can keep pointing to old background image paths until they are rebuilt.

  • Go to Elementor > Tools > Regenerate CSS & Data and run it.
  • Purge your caching plugin and any CDN.
  • Test again in a private browser window.

Background images are the classic example. They live in a CSS file, so the page can look broken even after you fix the content.

Fix 6: Check file permissions and the uploads path

Sometimes the files are there but the server refuses to serve them. A wrong folder permission returns a 403 error for each image. A good starting point is 755 for folders and 644 for files, which is what the WordPress developer documentation on file permissions recommends.

Also confirm the uploads path in your settings. If the new host uses a different folder, WordPress will build image addresses that point nowhere.

How to tell which fix you need

Use the symptom to pick the right step.

SymptomLikely causeFix
———
Broken icon, URL shows old domainOld URLs in page dataFix 2 and 3
Broken icon, file returns 404Files did not copyFix 1
Images load on some pages onlyCached CSS or contentFix 5
Console shows mixed contentHTTP images on HTTPSFix 4
File returns 403PermissionsFix 6

Prevent the problem next time

  • Move files and database together, and check both before switching DNS.
  • Run a search and replace on a staging copy first.
  • Keep a short migration checklist so every step is repeatable.

Elementor images not loading after migration: common questions

Why do some images load and others do not?

Images added at different times may use different address formats. One may use a relative path, another a full old-domain URL, and a third an HTTP address. A search for the old domain usually reveals the pattern.

Do I need to re-upload my images?

Usually not. If the files are in the uploads folder, fixing the saved addresses is enough. Re-uploading creates duplicates and does not fix the old addresses.

Will regenerating Elementor files delete my design?

No. The tool rebuilds the style files from your existing settings. It does not change your content.

What if the Media Library itself is empty?

That means the database lost the media records, even if the files exist. Our sister site covers that case in its guide to rebuilding the WordPress media database.

Conclusion

When you see Elementor images not loading after migration, start with the files, then the addresses, then the caches. In most cases the real culprit is an old domain saved inside the page data, and a bulk replace fixes it in minutes.
